"it was great to be back"

Siri and Veronica

To work as volunteers in CCV is something we will remember for the rest of our lives... We are two girls from Norway named Siri & Veronica, we are both turning 22 this year.

We first came here in January 2009 and spent 4 weeks here. We didn't know what to expect when we arrived. The first thing that hit us was the very hot weather outside the airport. The driver from CCV drove us to the village, and when we drove thru the gate, we saw a wonderful place! A clean village with flowers, trees, grass, cottages, playground and a really nice atmosphere. We got a guided tour around the village, it was much to take in, so many kids and impressions.

It was a volunteer from Scotland here so we got told how everything worked around here, and she could answer our questions. We got to eat wit the older and the most functional children. That is a whole lot of fun. Because they speak English, it's very easy to communicate with them.

The thing we love the most about CCV is they have everything they need for a full life. It's a place for them to live not just a place to stay. Every child is important to make the village as it is. They all do their part to the village. Help in feeding, strolling, do dishes, cleaning, laundry and helping their brothers and sisters. Some of the kids who aren't capable to go to school work in laundry or have their task to do. They are not stopped by a mental or physical delay and they love doing their part to the village.

It's also great to see how much the kids love their mamas and papas (the caregivers) and it seems like everybody who's working here loves it. The staff is awesome! After leaving here in February, we spent a month traveling around in Asia. We then decided we definitely wanted to go back to CCV again.

December 16, 2009, we were back in CCV again, it was great to be back! We were excited to see if they remembered us and see them all again. Some of the kids said "Hi, mama Siri and mama Veronica" and some said "What's your name?" So some did and some didn't remember us.

Since the last time, some of the children had been adopted, some died, some of the small ones are much bigger and better to talk now. Two of the boys are living on their own now. One of the kids who couldn't walk the last time is walking now, thanks to physical therapy (PT). We saw some big improvement in some of the kids.

Last time we had a schedule so we could see around the different facilities in the village, we were assigned in different places. This time we went more where we felt like it, and where we felt needed.

We also got to celebrate Christmas and New Year here at CCV. On December 24, it was church and Christmas dinner with the children and staff. On December 25, it was gift opening. Every child loved their new clothes and toys.

While writing this and thinking about how much we love this place, we are definitely coming back...Mama Sir & Mama Veronica.
